Half Way There!

So I'm proud to say that this morning I completed my first half marathon! I ran and completed the First Annual Los Angeles Half Marathon and actually survived. I ran it in 2 hours and 29 minutes which was a little slower than I would have liked but overall better than what I thought I'd do and not too bad I don't think for my first Half Marathon.

I'm sad to say though that I'm not walking away injury free. My left knee started hurting pretty bad just over half way through it and only got worse. It's killing me right now and I can barely walk. Hopefully it'll go away soon so I can continue on my mid week runs this week. My left knee has started hurting some too, after the race was over though oddly enough and I have some weird sore muscle in the back of my right leg as well. So basically I can barely walk and when I do I look like I'm about 90 years old.

But all that aside I'm still really happy I did it and actually completed it and really ran most of it with very few brief walking breaks. Hard to believe back in March when I did my first 10K I kept stopping and taking much longer walking breaks and this time I pretty much ran the whole first half without stopping which is equivalent to a 10k. Guess my training is really paying off!

Next weekend I'll be running a Holiday fun run 10K in Santa Monica/Venice; really looking forward to the much shorter run, although I'll have to up my pace. Just hope my knee is better in time.

I also want to say a big thank you to everyone who has donated to my fund so far. It helps motivate me so much more knowing I have your support and that you cared enough to donate to my fund and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Whenever I'm not so sure I want to get out of bed I think of everyones support I've received so far and it gets me out of bed instantly. So thanks again, it really means a lot not only to me but to the thousands who are suffering from a blood cancer!

The Start Of Cross Training

So I did my usual run on Tuesday morning, this time however it was very very cold since it's been rather cold in LA this week. Usually on Tuesday there are about 4 of us running, this week there were only two, perhaps everyone else was smart enough to stay in their warm beds. Well hey I got my day started early and felt great the rest of the day.

On Wednesday I took my first ever Yoga class in an effort to start cross training, and I have to tell you all that stretching felt terrific! Not sure how much it does for exercise, but it felt wonderful so I'm really looking forward to going back. I did however, feel a little awkward on some of the positions and well still have a lot to learn, thankfully there are others in the class that know what they're doing so I can watch them.

Thursday I did my usual night run with my group. This run felt great and I felt like I could have kept going for much longer than we did. However, I didn't want to over due it since I've signed up for the Los Angeles Half Marathon this Sunday. That's right, I decided to go ahead and attempt my first ever half marathon. This is the first annual LA Half marathon so I'm pretty excited to be there for it's inaugural run.

So nothing too much to report right now except the blisters are pretty much gone and the knee hasn't been hurting lately. Hopefully I can still say the same after Sunday's Half marathon. Anyway I'm sure I'll have more to dicuss at that point.
